Hawaii, the largest of them all, is also the largest island in the United States Of America. Located at the southernmost tip, this island was built by volcanoes that erupted one atop of the other. Even till today, the island of Hawaii is still growing due to the eruptions of the two active volcanoes, named Mauna Loa and K+lauea.
These two volcanoes, found in Hawaii Volcanoes National Park, remain a closely watched site and a hotspot for visitors, amongst the other dormant volcanoes. Established in 1916, Hawaii Volcanoes National Park tries to preserve as much of the volcanic features as they can. However the park isn't just about Volcanoes as the name suggest. Within the 377 square miles, dozens of activities and sights are available.
In the Hamakua part, hike in the forest near Kalopa State Recreation Area, enjoy a nice horseback riding experience or go to Akaka Falls State Park and watch the beautiful waterfalls. Or go toward Hilo, which hosts the Onekahakaha Beach Park, a picture perfect place for families to relax. Though this place doesn't have a beach, it has little tide pools where anyone can swim and just have fun.
If you'd love to get into the waters of Hawaii in this national park, head for Kona district. Kahaluu Beach, located within, is said to be one of the best spots for snorkeling. A famous beach park located in this area is the Laaloa Beach Park, which is great for all your surfing needs.
If you really want to see something unique though, go to the Puna district, which is famous for Punaluu Black Sand Beach. Green Sea Turtles and Hawksbill Turtles frequent this beach, usually basking on the sand, and have to be within 15 feet from reach at all times, but are certainly a sight not to be missed.
If its one thing Hawaii isn't short of, its beauty. All of the islands are natural land, the greenery of the forests and hills and views of the ocean being just priceless. Hawaii really presents you the feeling of getting back to nature all while embodying that perfect holiday spirit.
